Our Process

1. Get A Quote

Contact us to discuss your alfresco or patio size, design, and finish. We will provide a detailed quote will outline costs, materials, and the expected timeline.

2. Site Preparation

The area is cleared of grass, debris, and old concrete if needed. The ground is then excavated and leveled to create a strong, stable base for the new alfresco or patio.

3. Base Preperation

A layer of compacted gravel or crushed rock is added for support. Steel mesh or rebar reinforcement is installed to strengthen the concrete and prevent future cracks.

4. Formworking

Timber or metal formwork is set in place to define the alfresco or patio’s shape. Expansion joints are added to allow natural movement, preventing cracks over time.

5. Pouring & Finising

Concrete is poured, spread, and leveled for a smooth surface. Depending on the finish, it is brushed, exposed, smudged, or coloured to achieve the desired look.

6. Curing & Sealing

The concrete cures for at least 7 days, with moisture control to prevent cracks. A protective sealer is applied to enhance durability and resist stains or wear.

Alfresco & Patio FAQ's

How Long Does An Alfesco or Patio Slab Last?

A well-installed alfresco or patio slab can last 30 to 50 years, depending on concrete quality, reinforcement, and exposure to weather conditions.

For standard Alfresco’s and Patios, 100mm (4 inches) thick is ideal. If supporting outdoor kitchens, pergolas, or heavy furniture, 125mm (5 inches) with reinforcement is recommended.

Light foot traffic is fine after 24-48 hours, but for placing furniture, barbecues, or structures, wait 5-7 days for the concrete to fully cure.

  • Plain Concrete – Smooth, simple, and durable.
  • Brushed Concrete – Textured for better grip and slip resistance.
  • Exposed Concrete – Decorative with visible stones for a stylish look.
  • Smudged Concrete – A hand-textured finish for a unique, natural appearance.
  • Coloured Concrete – Pigments added for a customised, modern aesthetic.

Sweep and wash regularly, reseal every 2-3 years, and avoid harsh chemicals or pressure washing too aggressively to maintain surface integrity.

Use control joints to allow natural movement, ensure a well-compacted base, and reinforce with steel mesh or rebar for added strength.

It’s possible, but proper grading, leveling, and reinforcement are key. A professional ensures long-term durability and an even, polished finish.

Expect to pay $80-$150 per square metre, depending on size, thickness, and the chosen finish, including materials and labour.
